MINISTER of Guidance and Religious Affairs Godfridah Sumaili has “banned” Freemasons in Zambia from publicly taking part in activities to curb the spread of the Coronavirus.
The minister summoned the leadership of the Freemasons in Zambia after learning that they took part in a cleaning exercise of Chilenje Market in Lusaka where they donated sanitary products including masks and hand sanitizers.
The Freemasons promised to continue their efforts band pledged to clean all markets across Lusaka.
“It is against this background that my ministry has held a meeting with the leadership of the group to understand them, however, according to them the Freemasons are a society of secrets,” Sumaili said in a statement yesterday.
“I wish to state that my ministry is not working with them until a time that we fully understand who they are,” Sumaili added.
She said Zambia being a Christian nation, was a nation of light anchored on the word of God and regarded Jesus Christ as its Lord.
The minister however thanked Zambians and other organisations who had been donating towards the Coronavirus fight for their generosity, unity and patriotism.
“It is at a time such as this one that the nation should stand together in unity to win the fight that has befallen and the world at large,” she said.
Sumaili encouraged individuals, religious and cooperate organisations to support government efforts to end the COVID-19.
