THREE Zambians based in United States of America have died due to coronavirus, health minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya has confirmed.
During his daily COVID-19 update at the Ministry of Health in Lusaka this morning, Dr Chilufya said three Zambians were amongst the thousands of people to have died of the virus in the US.
“We have three Zambians living abroad that contracted COVID-19 in the USA and succumbed to it. May their souls rest in peace! We have other Zambian who contracted COVID-19 and they have recovered, we wish them well. Our students who are living and studying in China, we have not recorded any case of COVID-19.”
The minister also said 51 people who are said to have come in contact with the 58-year-old Kafue man who died at the University Teaching Hospital have all tested negative for COVID-19.
Kennedy Mweemba, a branch manager at Zanaco Kafue, became the 40th COVID-19 case after his death, as his infection went undetected.
He was taken into UTH intensive care unit from Kafue critically ill and medical staff were treating him for other ailments and not Coronavirus.
Dr Chilufya said three more COVID-19 patients had recovered bringing the total number of recoveries in Zambia to 28 with two fatalities.
Zambia has so far recorded 40 cases of COVID-19, two fatalities.
10 people remain admitted, eight in Lusaka and two in Ndola.
Dr Chilufya revealed that all the patients are stable, except a 74-year-old man who is on oxygen.
