MINISTER of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo says a “Political Grouping” is plotting to destroy the newly-acquired Police anti-riot motor vehicles with explosives.
The minsiter said this during a press briefing at his office in Lusaka today.
Although he did not mention the name of the political grouping, Kampyongo said; the source of the explosives is already known and the culprits are also known”.
“The anti-riot equipment has been procured at a high cost and it is irresponsible and criminal for any individual or organisation to begin scheming to destroy the equipment. This equipment is meant help our men and women in uniform to restore law and order in our communities,” Kampyongo said.
He explained that part of the equipment meant to modernise the operations of the Police service and bring it to contemporary standards of policing like in other developing countries.
He said Government shall continue investing in the security of the country to ensure that citizens are safe all the time.
“You are, therefore sternly warned to abandon your schemes before the long arm of the law catches up with you,” warned Kampyongo.
