ZAMBIA’S cases of the COVID-19 cases have surpassed 100 as health minister Dr Chitalu Chilufya announced a record nine new cases.
The latest new infections brings the total number of cases to 106.
The country has so far recorded three deaths with 55 recoveries while 48 remain admitted.
Globally the virus has infected more than two million people and killed over 200,000.
In his daily COVID-19 update this afternoon, Dr Chilufya revealed that three foreign truck drivers, an Asian consultant who recently arrived in the country, along with three Lusaka residents of Chawama, Kanyama and Chipata Compounds had been contracted the virus.
The minister also announced the recovery and subsequent discharge of the 10-year-old girl from Kabwe who tested positive about two weeks ago.
He said recoveries were “a good sign for the fight against COVID-19.”
Dr Chilufya said despite the country recording the highest number of infections, government had no intention of closing the boarders.
“WE are not closing our borders because of economic balance,” the minister said.
