AGRICULTURE minister Michael Katambo has ‘sent’ his wife of 27 years packing from their matrimonial home as he is marrying another woman.
A check at Katambo’s house, number 12 Brentwood Drive in Lusaka around 09:00 hours found a yellow Fuso Truck packing the minister’s wife’s goods.
Katambo married his wife, Grace Mushili, the daughter of senior chief Mushili of the Lamba-speaking people of Ndola rural in the early 1990s.
The two have two children – a boy and a girl.
Grace reluctantly confirmed that she was leaving her matrimonial home because the minister wanted to marry another woman.
“Yes, it is true. Yes, I am packing out because he has married somebody. He told me that ‘I want to marry another woman. ‘So, if you can stay two of you….’ but me I refused to say ‘no; I can’t! Better you marry that one,’” explained Grace before cutting the line.
But when contacted for a comment, Katambo denied chasing his wife and referred this reporter to talk to Grace.
“Me chasing my wife from home? No! I have not chased my wife from home. It is you to interview her and then find out what.… It is her who can tell you that,” Katambo said.
When reminded that a yellow Fuso Truck was found parked in his yard loading his wife’s household goods, Katambo responded that he was unaware.
“I am not aware,” answered Katambo.
Katambo was elected as Masaiti PF Member of Parliament in August, 2016.
Other sources told The Mast that Katambo had nothing until he married Grace, a business lady.
“She made him join politics, she used her money till he won and became a minister. Since he became a minister, he has a lot of women and kids from different women. He wants to marry one of them. He has built a house for her in ring road, bought her a Toyota Fortuner, white in colour, [and] on her birthday, he bought her Range Rover,” said the source.
The source said Katambo does not eat from his house and does not talk to his wife from the time he became minister.
“He goes home every day after midnight just to sleep. The girlfriend he wants to marry is named Rudo from Ndola, they have a child who is one year plus,” the source disclosed.
“The woman he has chased is chief Mushili’s daughter from lambaland; she is a princess.”
The source indicated that Grace would likely return to her Mishikishi farm in Ndola.
He also disclosed that Katambo had told his family not to be talking to Grace but to the girlfriend.
“He has bought many properties, now he is showing off,” the source said.
The source said Grace’s family had advised her to “accept it [because] she can’t force it”.
