TANZANIAN artiste AY says he is on a mission to create a music link and interaction between Zambia and his country.

AY born Ambwene Allen Yessayah is a bongo flava artiste who recently visited Zambia to seek collaborations and music deals.

“ I came to Zambia to open a corridor between Tanzania and Zambia musically.I did that with Uganda,Kenya,Rwanda,Nigeria,USA and South Africa. They called me Visionary,” he said in an exclusive interview.

“I like Zambian music. The good about it is they have their own tune. Of course I want to collaborate with some top artistes here and promote that music unity in Africa and beyond. I wanna share my talents with many Zambian artistes.”

AY believes music is a universal language that must help Africa unity and that collaborating amongst nations will help achieve this.
“It’s all about unity among African artistes and make more connections between us and big guys outside the continent. Collaborations are important,” said AY.

Born on July 5, 1982, in Mtwara, Southern part of Tanzania, AY began his career with the group S.O.G. in 1996. He decided to go solo in 2002. He is among the first bongo flava artistes to commercialize hip hop.

He was initially member of the musical group known as East Coast Army, but now he’s no longer part of the group.

He is still releasing songs and albums.

““My Music is all about EDUTAINMENT (Education & Entertainment) and I want this to be emphasised in my collaborations,”he said. And asked on what he thinks about the influence hip hop is having on the African continent, AY says the genre is very big in Tanzania.

“Hip Hop is very big in Tanzania and even headliners in Big shows are Hiphop Artistes even Bongo Flava started with Hip Hop Music Back in a days.”

But what is AY’s advice to upcoming artistes in Africa?

“They are supposed to respect the Business. Music is a business and this goes to everybody not just Musicians. I’d rather you respect your Job and the job gonna respect you,” he advises.
