AS the day draws closer to the Stanbic Music Festival (SMF) this October, excitement among Zambians is palpable as it is just becoming bigger and better than ever, boasting a special collaboration between American RnB icon Omarion and Zambian music sensation Yo Maps.
Just ahead of the festival, Yo Maps and Omarion, who will be headlining the event, dropped a brand new single titled “Superman”.
And in a statement, Stanbic shared that this exciting collaboration is a testament to SMF’s commitment to promoting Zambian music on a global platform.
“This years event is set to be an unforgettable experience, filled with incredible performances, vibrant energy, and a celebration of the rich musical heritage that unites us. Whether you are a long-time fan or new to the scene, this festival is a chance to immerse yourself in the magic of live music and dance,” stated Stanbic Banks Head, Marketing, Brand and PR, Eric Ngondo.
In an interview, Omarion (Omari Ishmael Grandberry) expressed his enthusiasm for working with Yo Maps (Elton Mulenga), praising his talent and dedication.
“Going back in Yo Maps catalogue and seeing his progression, starting in 2017-2018, and watching his videos, the swag and all the qualities of an artiste that plans on sticking around, was definitely an opportunity to share our audience,” Omarion said.
“He (Yo Maps) just has the nice mixture of everything and definitely was someone I could create with.”
Yo Maps also shared his gratitude for the opportunity and believes this collaboration will open doors for other Zambian artists.
“When I was informed about the opportunity to perform with one of the biggest artistes, I was ready to start immediately! I was happy with the opportunity because I was looking for this opportunity,” Yo Maps said.
“I really appreciated this opportunity, Omarion is a humble guy and I am grateful.”
Meanwhile the duo shared their thoughts on the concept of the song “Super Man”.
“First of all, I am husband and father so Superman is a love song and it is about trying to protect what belongs to me,” shared Yo Maps.
While Omarion said:” the concept of ‘Superman’ is so universal; we all know who Superman is, and he is coming to save the day in love! And love is something a lot of people lack, and sometimes people do need saving, and sometimes you got to save yourself. This definitely feels like a big vibe and is a song for the summer.”
The Stanbic Music Festival has a rich 10-year history of showcasing Zambian music alongside international stars.
From Boyz II Men in 2017 to Ne-Yo in 2023, the festival has consistently attracted top talent and large audiences.
This year’s lineup isn’t just about Omarion and Yo Maps. Music lovers can also look forward to performances by Musiq Soulchild, Witch Band (Zam Rock), Macky II, Chef 187, Danny, and Mampi.
The SMF promises to be an unforgettable experience filled with incredible performances and a vibrant atmosphere. The festival will take place at the Lusaka Polo Field next month on October 11 and 12.
