CHANGING the world for the better using the microphone is what he dreams of. Andrew Botomani calling himself Mugande on stage is a young and emerging musician.

Born in August 1993 in Lusaka, Mugande started singing at a young age but decided to seriously embark on a professional music career in 2012.

His first single recorded in the year 2008 was titled Yembekeza and since that time, he can’t wait to change the world using music.

The third year Public Relations student at North End University who takes up the slow type of Hip Hop music does conscious songs for his audience.

Zambia at 50 which features Sibusiso and Spark Gee was his first song which appeals to the general public on the need for unity and togetherness.

A sample of one of his songs, God Bless Me, reveals deep temptation, struggles of a young Christian who porioritises earthly things leaving out moral lessons and family values.

The song, which choruses ‘God bless me, don’t curse me,’ on the back drop of a heavy hip hop beat speaks to many youths who have similar pressures of life.

Asked on why he sings, Mugande says: “It’s an inborn thing ,I love doing music because it speaks to every religion, race and tribe, music basically knows no language barriers.”

He says he hopes to use music to: “bring all races and regions and religions together in Africa and the world at large.

“I hope to one day be one of the most listened to musician in this new decade,” he says as he discloses his ambition in the music world.

Asked on what projects he has lined up for this year, Mugande discloses that he has just released two videos and is looking forward to work on new music.

“I have just released Two music videos and yet to work on more videos and more music in 2020. And I would love to work with the big guys in the game ,such as Wiza,Chef ,Bobby East, Willz,Macky 2 , Mampi and Slap Dee to mention but a few,” he said.
