PRINCIPAL resident magistrate Irene Wishimanga has viewed Joseph Malanji’s houses in Silverest gardens, Chongwe district which DEC suspects are proceeds of crime.
The three properties that were purchased at US$50, 000 are among the seven properties owned by Malanji in Silverest Gardens.
According to to DEC top investigator, Kwaleyela Mukelabai, Malanji paid for the three houses after returning from Turkey, where he had travelled to collect the US$5 million released by the ministry of finance for the purchase of a chancery and staff houses for the Zambian mission.
The Court also viewed two helicopters at the ZAF hanger, purchased by Malanji at US$1.4 million and US$700, 000.
Malanji is being prosecuted over the said properties in the Economic and Financial Crimes Court as law enforcement officers suspect they were illegally acquired.
He is jointly charged with Fredson Yamba who is accused of willful failure to follow the law in the management of public funds when he released K154, 201, 197 for the purchase of property in Turkey.
