A 25-year-old expectant mother from Kabwe is set to give birth behind bars, receiving a one-year jail term for assaulting a 14-year-old girl whom she suspected of having a relationship with her husband.
Kabwe Resident Magistrate Catherine Mumba, handed the sentence to Precious Kampamba of Natuseko Site and Service who was charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm.
According to ZANIS, the incident occurred on September 11, 2023, in Kabwe, Central Province, Zambia, where Kampamba confronted the teenager.
Unlike other pregnant women who crave for food stuff, her craving was in the palm of her hands as she led a mob to attack the 14 year old and redesigned her body.
Despite pleading for a suspended sentence due to her pregnancy, the court emphasized the severity of the offense, citing a minimum five-year imprisonment for assaulting a child.
Magistrate Mumba sentenced Kampamba to one year in prison and advised her to entrust her newborn to the Department of Social Welfare for the duration of her sentence.
