A 41-year-old male tenant of Matero had the shock of his life when his 28-year-old landlady mopped him out of the house amidst a downpour of rains.
Divine Mishengo mourned to the Matero Local Court that Sophia Chirambo sent his family, furniture and cockroaches packing on rainy February day forcing him to shamefully land at his in-laws house like a refugee fleeing a battle zone.
However, in her claim, Sophia said that Mishengo was truant tenant full of excuses insofar as paying rent was concerned.
She explained to Magistrate Harriet Mulenga that despite Mishengo owning a bus, he owed rentals from as far back as December amounting to K3750 whose payment he postponed every time it was due claiming he was waiting for the now infamous ‘ka payment’.
In passing judgement, the court wondered how a well-nourished man with a tummy like he had swallowed three soccer balls could expect to live rent free.
The court ordered Mishengo to make an instant payment of K1000 on April 30 and subsequent instalments of K600 until the debt was liquidated.
