DESPITE the rising costs of diapers, baby porridge and kindergarten school fees, a man of Chibombo has discarded his wife for failure to bear him more children.
Maxwell Makapesi, 38 said that he was tired of bruising his knees and elbows in a fruitless attempt to fertilize Christine Phiri, 35 and begged the Matero Local Court to spare him from leaking any more sweat and proteins by granting him a divorce.
The couple has been married since 2003.
Meanwhile, in her defence, Christine said that her eggs and hatchery were in tip-top condition and the lack of a fourth child was because she had been using traditional family planning herbs which take long to be reversed and pleaded with her husband not to relent in his mission to fill the earth.
However, Makapesi refused Phiri’s overtures saying she had secretly taken the said family planning since 2010 and he was only informed by another woman who is a friend to the wife that all his proteins and seeds were hitting a brick wall and not the ova.
After hearing Makapesi’s affliction of a harvestless cultivation caused by secret consumption of family planning, Magistrate Harriet Mulenga concluded that there was no love between the two and divorced them accordingly.
Magistrate Mulenga ordered Makapesi to compensate Phiri with K15,000 in monthly installments of K500 although the initial pay would be K2000.
