IN HER three-year marriage to 23-year-old Brian Mwale of Makeni Simoson Area, Angela Nyirenda who is a sales assistant at a shop in Lusaka’s Kulima Tower has never had her image used as profile picture on her husband’s phone or social media accounts.
Instead Mwale prefers to use the image of exquisite and curvaceous US female star Beyonce Knowles.
And because of that, Nyirenda aged 25, no longer wants to be married to Mwale.
She took the matter to the Kanyama Local Court seeking divorce.
Facts before the court were that the two got married in 2017 under traditional law, a K4000 bride price was half paid.
The court heard that problems in their marriage emerged when Mwale started to believe that Nyirenda was no longer making efforts to make herself attractive.
He also thought she had become too proud.
Nyirenda told the court when she met Mwale, he had an obsession for Beyonce starting from her music to her looks.
Nyirenda explained that she thought he would stop but to her surprise her husband’s obsession for Beyonce grew to an extent of using her photos on all his social media accounts.
She complained that Mwale had never used her photo as as display picture or posted her on any social media platform.
She said one day while making love Mwale even asked her to pose like Beyonce in her “Drunk in Love” music video but she refused much to his anger.
Nyirenda said she had lost interest in the marriage and wanted the court to dissolve it.
“My husband is so obsessed with Beyonce photos so much that he no longer finds me attractive,” complained Nyirenda.
In his defense Mwale said when he met Nyirenda, she used to bath and look nice but after he married her, she stopped doing anything to make him sexually attracted to her.
Mwale said Nyirenda wanted their marriage to end because her friend had introduced her to a Lebanese national with whom she was now having an affair.
Mwale said the same Lebanese national had even bought her an iPhone.
“Your honor ask her who bought her the phone she is using because I can’t afford it not ever herself, so this Beyonce thing is just an excuse otherwise she has a Lebanese boyfriend and the only reason I’m still with her is because we are splitting rent,” said Mwale.
Ruling on the matter, In magistrate Mubukwanu Matalaka advised the couple to seek counsel from the elders from both sides and stop wasting courts time because there were many serious cases to be sorted out.
