THE Chinese government has pledged to help Zambia end load shedding by implementing cooperation agreements that will generate 720 megawatts of power.
Addressing the media yesterday, Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Han Jing assured Zambians that sustainable power supply across the whole country will be attained once the projects are completed.
Han said the cooperation agreements signed, include the supplying, delivery and installations of rooftop solar systems to be executed by ZESCO and Power China.
He however revealed that the 720 megawatts does not include rooftop solar systems but incorporates other energy projects such as the Kafue Gorge Lower Solar Power Plant, Kariba North Solar Powerplant, among others.
He also described President Hakainde Hichilema’s trip to China as successful where the signing of many Memoranda of Understanding (MOU)s were made including the revitalisation of the TAZARA corridor.
“China will help in ending load shedding. we will ensure sustainable power supply in this country. We will add at least 720 megawatts of electricity in Zambia,” he revealed.
“Zambia will not only be revamped but turned into a dynamic economic corridor.”
