AS the international break inches closer, Nkwazi FC stands tall at the summit of the Super League, having secured six points from their first two games this season.
The police-sponsored side is showing early signs of determination, even with a game in hand against the defending champions, Power Dynamos.
The Zambian football weekend action kicked off on Saturday, September 2nd, with a flurry of matches. FC MUZA dominated Mutondo Stars, securing a 2-0 victory with goals from Kelvin Mwanza in the 19th minute and Andrew Phiri in the 53rd minute.
Napsa Stars and Kansanshi Dynamos played to a goalless draw, showcasing solid defensive performances from both sides.
Green Eagles managed to edge out Nkana with a 1-0 victory, thanks to Freddy Michael Kouablan’s strike in the 75th minute.
Konkola Blades and Power Dynamos, the defending champions, couldn’t break the deadlock and ended in a goalless draw, marking two straight draws for the reigning titleholders.
Nkwazi, the league leaders, continued their impressive run by defeating Zesco United 1-0, with Brian Masanyinga scoring the lone goal in the 86th minute.
Zanaco emerged victorious against Trident with a 2-0 win, courtesy of goals from Chawanangwa Kaonga in the 34th minute and Dennis Nganga in the 68th minute.
Mufulira Wanderers and Kabwe Warriors played out an exciting 2-2 draw, with Clive Biyeta scoring twice for Mufulira Wanderers in the 10th and 24th minutes, while Prince Mumba and Matthews Tolopa found the net for Kabwe Warriors in the 61st and 88th minutes, respectively.
Sunday’s matches featured Prison Leopards defeating Green Buffaloes 1-0, with Junior Zulu netting the decisive goal in the 15th minute.
Forest Rangers and Red Arrows couldn’t break the deadlock, ending their encounter in a goalless draw.As the league takes a breather for the international break, fans eagerly await the return of Super League action to see if Nkwazi can maintain their early-season form and secure their position at the top.
Meanwhile, defending champions, Power, will look to bounce back from their slow start when they play their game in hand.
So far the top six teams share have five points each, Zanaco second, newly promoted side, Mufulira Wanderers is on third, while Forest Rangers take up the fourth spot.
Prison and Eagles take up fifth and sixth position respectively.
